David Meyer has been a dedicated figure in the wellness field since 2015, working as a yoga and mindfulness teacher as well as a peer recovery coach. He became a licensed psychotherapist in 2020, blending insights from his personal healing journey with his extensive training in yoga and therapy to guide others towards wholeness.
David’s own healing process began in 2011, following a series of challenges that led him to seek treatment for problematic cocaine and opioid use. During this time, he was introduced primarily to 12-step recovery methods, but it was a yoga and meditation class that ignited a profound new passion. This experience propelled him to complete over 500 hours of yoga teacher training, attend Vipassana retreats, and accumulate thousands of hours in practice and teaching. His teaching experience spans juvenile detention centers, rehabilitation facilities, colleges, workshops, and yoga teacher trainings.
With a Master of Social Services degree earned in 2020, David has since worked across various levels of care, including detox, rehab, acute psychiatric settings, and outpatient services. He currently operates in private practice as a psychotherapist and coach, specializing in trauma informed care, mindfulness/somatic approaches, Family Constellations and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. As a Certified Trauma Professional, David is deeply influenced by the work of Gabor Maté and healing traditions from the Amazon. His personal experience includes healing with plant medicine in Peru with Shipibo healers, and he is committed to making such transformative practices more accessible to those in recovery.
David also speaks out against the punitive approaches of the “War on Drugs,” believing they fail to address the social, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals struggling with substance use and only perpetuate trauma. He was a casualty of such punitive measures and understands such trauma experientially.
